After more than 40 years of working with children and families, one lesson became clear: every behavior tells a story, and every child wants to be understood.
Drawing from 40+ years as an educator, teaching deaf and hearing impaired children and then as a speech therapist – and personal experience as a mom of a son with particular learning issues – Denise watched children struggle emotionally, socially, behaviorally, or developmentally, and families often left feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to help. Denise realized that stories could open conversations that were difficult to begin. Denise creates children’s books that help initiate conversations that gently open the door to difficult topics – helping children feel understood while giving parents, educators, and caregivers a natural way to begin meaningful conversations. Because when childhood gets complicated, understanding becomes the bridge.
Beyond the pages of children’s books, Denise Abdale is a passionate gardener, a skilled needleworker, an avid mystery reader and a fan of 1930’s-1940’s film noir mysteries.
